A Kruger Park safari is one of those once in a lifetime experiences that everyone coming to South Africa should treat themselves to. The Kruger National Park is an iconic symbol of our commitment to nature and the conservation of our wildlife.
The Kruger is a truly wild place, and as with any other park, the animals are in no way tame. This naturally poses quite a few risks which makes it all the more important for any park guests to stay safe while on their trip. Vula Safaris prioritises the safety of all of those who travel with us and we make sure that we let each guest know exactly what they need to know in order to keep out of danger, no matter where the tours go.
Elephants, lions, kudu, rhino and all kinds of snakes and spiders will be encountered along the way and with our safety tips, you can enjoy the park without the worry about finding yourself in a spot of trouble.
Must know tips
The Kruger National Park has a long, strict list of rules that have evolved over the parks long history and each rule has to be followed. The moment you enter the wild habitat of the Kruger, you are agreeing to follow the parks rules and these tips can keep you safe while on a guided safari.
- Remain in your vehicle
There are very few places in the Kruger where you can get out and walk. These areas are mostly limited to picnic spots and rest camps. Guided safaris are conducted in open vehicles and guests should never leave the safety of these vehicles. You should also not lean out, or have any parts of your body sticking out, as this might be a little tantalising to the local lions.
- No touching, feeding or tempting
The wildlife might look blissful and as though they wouldn’t harm a fly, but don’t believe this for a moment. Many a guest has tried to get up close and personal with the animals, whether it is to touch them or get up close for a photo. By doing this, you could be terrifying the wildlife which could end up with you or the animal being hurt or worse. Even if you believe you are an expert, the animals are wild and it is important that you leave them be.
- Walking Safaris
For anyone wanting to experience a different side of the park, a walking safari is one of the most enjoyable experiences. If you are keen on enjoying a bush walk, it will need to be booked well in advance and is carried out by the park. Guided walks are done in the company of an armed guide so you will be safe all along the way.
- Watch your food
Monkeys are one of the parks more daring animals and they are known to steal food whenever the opportunity arises. Whether they are in rest camps or alongside the road, there is always the chance that they brazenly take food. It is best to keep snacks out of sight and if you spot monkeys nearby, don’t tempt them. What might seem like cute behaviour ends up becoming a problem for everyone.
